Spinning up damaged hard drives (dust included)

Two damaged hard drives not spinning up and making weird sounds. I decide to open them up, then let air add a sprinkle of dust directly onto the platters. I then attempt to use them afterwards including trying to recover some data. This is not recommended procedure for important data, you risk permanent data loss and further damage the moment you break the seal.
