Bhogi is the first day of the four-day festival and comes preceding Makar Sankranthi. It is widely celebrated in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Telangana. On the day of Bhogi People discard old and derelict items that are no longer in use. People wake up early before the dawn and lit bonfire popularly known as Bhogimantalu. Old and derelict items are thrown in the fire to concentrate on new things that lead to transformation as a part of the ritual.
