State wrestling champ's bullying case dismissed

we were there as state champion wrestler nick chavez was nearly booed off the mat. he was facing charges for bullying a classmate at rio grande high school. and that unhappy crowd would likely boo again tonight.. knowing what a judge just decided in court .... jill galus is downtown with what happened today... no alleged victim -- no officers -- no witnesses-- nick chavez was basically the only one who showed up for today's hearing. because of that, it seemed the judge really had no option other than to dismiss the case - which is exactly what he did. he's a state champion wrestler... but if you ask aps, he won the title at a tournament he wasn't even supposed to compete in. accused of taking another student's money -- knocking down his lunch tray -- and slapping him -- the allegations against chavez in february were enough to get him suspended from rio grande high school for three days. ...a punishment that also barred him from competing in the championship. but at the time, a district judge stepped in and ruled otherwise -- mandating aps go back and interview all witnesses before issuing a suspension ... a loophole that allowed chavez to wrestle. but aps isn't letting the issue go just yet. district officials say it was wrong for the court to intervene in their disciplinary decision. because of that, they're moving forward with their own injunction hearing. that hearing hasn't yet been scheduled. jill galus kob eyewitness news 4. a high school softball coach is
