Sporting better agility, firepower, and armor than the T-43, it still plays very much as a flanking medium tank, using its low profile and excellent mobility to make up for its mediocre armor and poor gun penetration. The T-44 is very much a flanking medium in the tradition of the T-43, and the later T-54. Its mobility is among the best of any Tier 8 medium tank, and is essential in making up for the otherwise poor firepower that it has. With a maximum penetration of 183 mm with AP on any of its guns, it is almost impossible to penetrate many higher tier opponents from the front, and some may even give problems from the sides.
