T. Bag and the Sunstones of Montezuma S8E7 (1992) - FULL EPISODE

One Million Years B.C. Penny finds herself in prehistoric times and needs to convince caveman chief Ig - played by none other than the great Murray Melvin - to hand over the latest sunstone. Unfortunately, rival tribesman Thug also wants it, and T. Bag and T. Shirt are even prepared to literally fight for it. What will Penny do? This episode was first broadcast on Monday, 17th February, 1992, and there's also some nice Children's ITV continuity with Tommy Boyd either side. I really can't begin to tell you how much I used to love this show, from the earlier Elizabeth Estensen years through to Georgina Hale's tenure in the eponymous role. By all accounts, the production team always operated on very tight turnaround times and even tighter budgets, so there was no relying on fancy effects, sets, or locations. The success of the programme lived and died simply on whether the script was funny enough - and the sheer unadulterated glorious silliness of this episode certainly had me laughing, anyway. Where else will you find something set in the stone age but with a Milton Keynes punchline? Or a poem about being trampled by a mammoth? Or a "Troglodytes"/"No, it's true" exchange? It's hilarious, tight, well acted, but also advances the storyline - everything that children's television should be. Grateful thanks to Lee for providing this recording.
