The 5 principles of highly effective teachers: Pierre Pirard at TEDxGhent

After a high profile career as CEO, Pierre Pirard decided to redirect his focus and became a teacher. Working in Brussels' most disadvantaged neighbourhoods, he discovered that these children -- usually portrayed as troublemakers -- are able to rise above this negative image. He believes that these kids are the future of our society and that we should care for their education, no matter what their socio-cultural and economical background is. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
