The Armenian Teletime Broadcast date: December 10, 1988 The only Armenian television programming in Southern California during the 1980s. It was broadcast on KSCI channel 18 on a limited schedule: Saturday & Sunday mornings at 10:00 AM. This was a special edition episode, dedicated to the Spitak Earthquake (also called Leninakan Earthquake and Gyumri Earthquake). The earthquake struck on Wednesday, December 7, 1988 at 11:41 local time (07:41 UTC) in the Spitak region of Armenia (then part of the Soviet Union). The earthquake killed at least 25,000 people; geologists and earthquake engineering experts laid the blame on the poorly built support structures of apartments and other buildings built during the "stagnation" era of Leonid Brezhnev.
