The Art of Architectural Illustration

James Dougherty is the Director of Design at Dover, Kohl & Partners, a leading Miami architectural firm that focuses its work on helping communities envision and implement a more walkable, sustainable future. He began working with Dover Kohl in 1996 after graduating with a masters degree in architecture from UM's School of Architecture. He participates in all aspects of the office's work and specializes in the creation of many of the company's three-dimensional illustrations, using a blend of hand-drawn and computer techniques. His graphics and visualizations illustrating sustainable urban design and form-based code principles have been published in over a dozen books including Retrofitting Suburbia by Ellen Dunham-Jones and June Williamson. His beautifully executed watercolor of Kerr Village, Johns Island, South Carolina for Dover Kohl received an Award of Excellence in the ASAI 25th annual competition.
