The Dangers of Clay Pellets for Your Aquaponic Garden

I was doing some pre-spring work in the greenhouse when I suddenly learned something new! I've been using these clay pellets since I first got started, which at this point has been quite some time. In that time they have frozen and thawed out several times as I have struggled to compete with Canadian winters and my little greenhouse. It seems that each time they have frozen (with water in them) the tiny channels and pockets fill with ice and create larger fractures within the clay pellet. After a few winters of this, I can crush these with very little pressure from a thumb and finger. Since these can be somewhat pricy, it seemed fair to let everyone know of this possible issue. That being said, if it's NEVER going to freeze these are still a top notch option in my way of thinking. I will begin exploring other, more natural, options as time, space and funding allow with results to follow. Thanks for watching! Blessed bee! Visit the Blogs!
