With a potential cost of $40 billion, the replacement of Australia's six Collins Class submarines with 12 Future Submarines is the largest and most complex defence project Australia has ever undertaken. Unfortunately, poor decision-making and delays are threatening to sink the project before it has even set sail. In this Meet the Researcher lecture, CIS Research Fellow Simon Cowan looks at the case for an Australian nuclear-powered submarine and explains why doing the Collins Class all over again might give us another generation of 'dud subs'.
