The largest Silver Guadalupe Virgin in Taxco, Mexico

The largest Virgin of Guadalupe in the world made in silver by the hands of artisans of Taxco, Mexico, is now a reality . The sculpture is 6 feet tall, is mounted on a base of 1.4 feet tall and weighs 380 pounds. In a solemn act, Governor Rogelio Ortega presented the sculpture of the largest silver guadalupe virgin in the world, at the civic plaza in Taxco, in the company of the elected governor, Héctor Astudillo, the state’s Tourism Secretary, Sergio Salmeron, as well as promoters of the sculpture and authorities of the Catholic Church. At the presentation, the Secretary of Tourism, Sergio Salmeron explained it as a project to strengthen national and foreign tourism for Taxco, as well as internal visitors that overflowed to see the Silver Guadalupe Virgin. The president of the Association For the love of Taxco, Rene Martinez expressed that the new religious image is a symbol of unity and great pride. In his turn, the sculptor, Miguel Sobrino said he and his team dedicated to the Project with love and passion to create an sculpture that marked his career. Before the unveiling of the sculpture in Santa Prisca church, Governor Rogelio Ortega said the Virgin of Guadalupe is a symbol of harmony and peace, and especially this piece made of silver that links it for posterity with its place of origin: the magical village of Taxco. Inside Santa Prisca cathedral, authorities of the state government and of the Catholic Church assembled for the unveiling of the sculpture, done by Governor Rogelio Ortega and Elected Governor, Héctor Astudillo. This event caused great expectation among the people of Taxco; who came to meet the beautiful Silver Guadalupe Virgin. The religious ceremony was led by the Archbishop of Acapulco, Carlos Garfias; Bishop of Chilpancingo, Salvador Rangel; and Santa Prisca´s priest, Osvaldo Gómez, who gave their blessing to Guerrero´s new Peace Ambassador. After the religious ceremony, representatives of the Silver Regulation Institute delivered to the acting governor and to the elected governor the pure silver certificate used to make the amazing sculpture. This great event caused a big impact among those present who admired the new religious image, and everybody wanted to get a picture or a souvenir of their new Silver Guadalupe Virgin, symbol of peace and harmony for the people of Guerrero.
