We are in the village of Solitude where the name brings in a kind of irony. It is not just solitude you will find here, but a sense of deprivation and a story of struggle. It’s here that you come across a visual of stark contrast. For as long as they remember- over 40 years now- this cluster of families has been living without water supply, street lighting and lack of proper access roads. Their 'fault' lies in their location. Adjacent to the luminous and prestigious airport, the villagers are fighting hard to stay put on their land. The government’s inaction points to the notion that these families are unwanted here. A tanker comes in once a day to supply water. Lack of street lighting puts them at a constant risk, especially the women and children. And it is the latter who are really facing the brunt of this apathy, with having to walk the long route to school on treacherous muddy paths. Repeated complaints to the government haven’t changed the situation, and the families continue to suffer day in and day out.
