Russell- Smith, 1927-1998) They met in the spring when the fields were sown and with the corn their love had grown; And now the harvest was gathered in, she'd exchanged her freedom for a wedding ring. The bride and groom stood side by side, with guests assembled from far and wide; who raised their glasses high in the air, to drink to the happy pair. The gypsy fiddler began to play, a haunting tune both sad and gay; a lilting tune that set their feet all tapping to the merry beat. Lullalalalalalalala The happy pair so proudly led the ancient dance of the newly wed; and so began the dancing and song, that would last the whole night long. Now first so slow, so very slow, the dancers dancing to and fro - Soon stamping feet make the rafters ring, in the ancient dance of the wedding ring.
