Mike's POV:
No way... no... no... I lie down on the curb peering through the cover, I dread to think what people watching me are thinking, but I can't see it, I guess it must have sunk, gold is really heavy apparently... this can't be happening, it took me months to save up for that, my wages, allowance, money from my birthday and Christmas, it all went into that ring, and now it's gone... I dread to think about what Tina will think of me when I turn up at breadsticks without it. I can't just buy another ring, I had it custom made for Tina, it takes weeks for them to make it, and of course all the money that went into getting it, I sit on the curb with my head buried in my hands, she's going to break up with me for sure now... I screw my eyes up tight, and I know that my cheeks are damp, not with the rain, but with tears...
I get to my feet, I can't just sit here crying all day, I've got to do something about it, but the question is what? And I know that there's only one person who can help me...
Half an hour later, I'm standing outside his apartment, I ring the buzzer, please answer, please answer, please... The door is pulled open and his face drops when he sees me
"Mike what happened? You're soaked! Come on in, I'll get you a towel and a cup of cocoa"
"Thanks Mr Shu"
He leads me inside and sits me down on his sofa, I carefully dry my hair with the towel he gives me and once I've finished he comes in with two cups of cocoa, he sits on the sofa next to me and we both take a gulp of the steaming milky drink.
"So what happened Mike, what's wrong? He asks, smiling comfortingly
"It's Tina, I've totally messed everything up... I was going to propose..." I reply, sighing
"Wow, I'm so happy for you!"
"Yeah, but... on the way to meet her I lost the ring, then I found it again... but it fell down a drain, and I can't get it out again... I'm supposed to be meeting her in an hour! What am I going to do! I told her I had something for her, I guess... I guess I'm just worried that she's going to break up with me..."
Mr Shu puts his cocoa down on the coffee table and gets to his feet
"I might have just the thing for you" He disappears round the corner and comes back a moment later holding something small and black in his hand, he passes it to me
"That was my grandmothers, it was her engagement ring, I want you to take it..."
"Mr Shu I can't..."
"Yes you can, I've never known a better couple than you and Tina, I want you to take this ring, go to breadsticks, and get that girl to marry you, I believe in you"
I smile, getting to my feet
"Thanks Mr Shu, you'll never know how awesome you are, I need to go rent a tux, then I'm going to breadsticks! Thanks again"
As I make my way out of the apartment I take a look at the ring, it's silver with a beautiful purple diamond in the centre, just Tina's style... I smile to myself...
