To start my new series on payware-quality freeware FSX planes, we have the recently released Dino Cattaneo Aermacchi MB326 jet trainer from Italy. I have nothing but good to say about everything Dino has put out there. The MB326 was a light military jet aircraft manufactured by Aermacchi in Italy in the late 1950s. It was first flown on the 10th of December of 1957, and was introduced into Italian military service in February of 1962. Around 800 of these aircraft were produced between 1961 and 1975. Countries that have put the MB326 into military service include Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Ghana, Italy, Paraguay, South Africa, Togo, Tunisia, the United Arab Emirates, the United States of America, Zaire, and Zambia. The MB326 is powered by a single Bristol Siddeley Viper turbojet engine, with a power output of 2,500 pounds of thrust. The aircraft has a maximum speed of 500 miles per hour, a range of 1,035 miles, and a service ceiling of 41,000 feet. This aircraft has had a checkered safety record. Most incidents occurred while the aircraft was in service in Australia. From March of 1968 to October of 1994, there were 22 airframes destroyed, with a total of 7 fatalities. In all, 33 airframes were destroyed in Italian military service between 1963 and 1992.
