Some info about Tariffs!
There are much more of them, than just economy, business and first class. For example Delta has Y,B,M,S,H,Q,K tariffs in economy class, which it sells by different prices. It’s practically tickets for the same seats with a slight differences (some have more miles, some different time of stay, some different refund terms). For example tariff Y can cost 500$, tariff K 1000$, but there would be practically same seats with no service changes.
By default with price request from OTA (online travel agency), GDS (global distributing system) gives flights which include at least one layover not always with lowest tariff. For example let’s take next flight SYD-SIN-LON-SIN-SYD, cheapest and most suitable one can be different for each segment, for example
SYD-SIN - tariff H - 300$
SIN-LON - tariff M - 400$
LON-SIN - tariff S - 500$
SIN-SYD - tariff K - 600$
But, because both GDS and airlines are always in race for making profits bigger, most of the times they give each segment with the highest tariff (as K for example) and they try to sell all other segments with the same highest tariff, even if there is available cheaper one. This usually happens for flights with closest dates, because there is a high chance that tickets with cheap tariff on some segments can disappear.
