Twin Polar Bear Cubs Born in East China

A polar bear gave birth on Sunday to twin cubs, one male and one female, at an aquarium in east China's Shandong Province. The brother and sister duo were born at Quancheng Polar Ocean World in Qihe County, Dezhou City, and weighed 750 grams and 666 grams respectively at birth. The tiny cubs are now being taken care of in an incubator, and both are in good condition. "It is highly possible for a polar bear to give birth to two cubs in one litter, but the odds are much lower for both to survive. So, after the cubs were born, we hired professional nurses and doctors [to look after them]. ... We are now taking good care of them 24x7 to make sure that they grow up strong and healthy," said Li Guofeng, manager of Quancheng Polar Ocean World. The pair, who have yet to be named, are expected to make their public debut in about two months, according to the aquarium.
