Homesick Expat Reflections at a Kiwi Christmas Festive Period London UK Dunedin NZ on a road trip journey to town to get my Irlen Syndrome glasses changed from a pink tint to brown, hence my mention of the pink traffic lights that were actually red :) (Irlen Syndrome = extreme light sensitivity) I was born in Kingston upon Thames London and spent my childhood in Hounslow Twickenham and Richmond and then moved to Sonning Common Peppard near Henley on Thames when I was 9. Best friends were Anthony Griffiths of Peppard Road (The Great Stakalini who I learnt to play guitar with) and Stephen Compton of Baskerville Road Sonning Common and we all attended Chiltern Edge Secondary Modern School. I did the infamous 5 mile paper round starting at The Unicorn Pub on the way to Rotherfield down the scary Colmore Lane with a mere 21 houses on the delivery list :) I also lived in Woodley in Reading and did also live in Basildon in Essex in later years and much later York in North Yorkshire. I think my most happy memories stem from Sonning Common and Henley on Thames when I lived at 6 Cherry Tree Close, Shiplake Bottom, such a very beautiful part of the UK, My father is buried in Reading and my Daughter is buried in Hambleton North Yorkshire and they both died in 1993, but, life goes on and is very precious.
