Those movies show various impact fracture and crush tests performed on ceramic (alumina) and plexiglass plates, as well as one polycarbonate plate loaded in mode II (crack at 70 degrees). The pictures are taken at 5, 2 and 1 million frames per second using the new Kirana (Specialised Imaging) camera (sensor not finalised yet). Such films show the strong potential for exploration of new ultrashort phenomena of impact fracture and fragmentation in our group (www.rittel.net.technion.ac.il).
Those are not "scientific" movies but a feasibility test for the camera.
