Kakamega County has gone down to books as the first county government in the country to launch a mega project in the health sector after groundbreaking for construction of the Kakamega Teaching and Referral Hospital (KT&RH).
Kakamega County Governor H.E Hon.Wycliffe Ambetsa Oparanya led. The mega project which will be constructed in three phases-a period of three years-at a cost of 6 billion shillings will lie on a 10 acre land, 1 acre shy of the current General Hospital. The teaching and referral hospital will offer its services hand in hand with the current facility and will focus on specialized treatment to patients as well as offering training for the upcoming Masinde Muliro University Medical School and other medical training institutions in the county.
Project Discription:
The new 750 BE 75,000M suared tertiary hospital for Kakamega County teaching and referral hospital comprising of the following Departments :
1. Outpatient department, all major specialists displines, 49 examination/ consulting rooms and 33 treatment rooms.
2. Trauma department including CT Scanner
3. Operating department; 13 theatres including heart catherization / angiography
4. ICU- 58 Beds
5. Radiology - 15 diagnostic rooms
6. Nuclear medicine - 2Gamma Cameras
7. Oncology/ radiotherapy
8.wards: 4 surgical / 4 medical / 3paediatric - obsterics and gynaecology etc.
