This outrageously gorgeous and rare '54 Stratocaster from the Custom Shop has just come back to us and we could not be happier to see her and play her again. This particular model is only built once every ten years and is unavailable until that decade rolls around again! This piece was built from a hand selected light piece of ash with a fantastically aged '54 maple "U" neck. The pickups are the Hand-wound '54's and all together this guitar produces an utterly amazing and vintage tone. The sound is completely unique to this year as there is an underfund tone coming forth really allowing a large bit of room to move tonally. The pickups have a different tonal characteristic than the 60's or even the Fat 50's in that there is a strong warmth and "glassiness" that really works well with strumming to blues rock playing styles. It is hard to nail down exactly what the tone is compared to everything else by Fender but we cannot express how truly different and grand we find this little tonal machine to be. The fit and finish is amazing as well. The comfort of the neck even with its size being not on the small side is outstanding. The light weight nature of the guitar also lends itself to the playability and airy tone of the instrument. And we absolutely love the relic.
