Summary - http://www.usaid.gov/km/seminars/2009/gender_agriculture_seminar09.html Gender inequalities result in less food being grown, less income being earned, and higher levels of poverty and food insecurity. Women play a vital role as agricultural producers and as agents of food and nutritional security. Unfortunately, relative to men, they have less access to productive assets such as land, and services such as finance and extension. In low-income developing countries, agriculture is a sector capable of exceptionally high impact on poverty reduction. Yet for agriculture to fulfill its potential for economic growth and food security, gender disparities must be addressed and effectively reduced. The seminar will focus on how to accomplish integrating gender into agricultural programs.
