Valeo Starter Testing

Testing a small Valeo starter motor (as found in BMW mototrcycles) on the bench: what's happening when power is supplied? By leaving the main plus terminal disconnected, the second part of this test prevents the starter from going into the normal full power mode. It demonstrates that the pinion turns slowly during its axial motion. This is a necessary feature for the gears to engage. (Warning: if you try this at home, don't connect plus to the solenoid alone for too long. It draws around 20A is this mode, and is not designed to withstand that for very long!) (Geman voice-over.)
