The Vandenbos procedure is a rational physiologic approach to the problem of onychocryptosis/ingrown toenail (overgrown toe skin) and yields a cosmetically excellent result that will never recur. **NOTE: OXYCODONE SHOULD NEVER BE USED FOR ACUTE PAIN AFTER THIS PROCEDURE. SINCE FILMING, I HAVE REVISED MY PRACTICE. FULL-STRENGTH IBUPROFEN USUALLY IS SUFFICIENT FOR PAIN MANAGEMENT. A FEW TABLETS OF CODEINE/MORPHINE (10) MAY BE NECESSARY IN RARE CASES.** For more information regarding this procedure, please visit http://www.ingrowntoenails.ca OR www.overgrowntoeskin.ca The Vandenbos procedure was first described by Vandenbos and Bowers in 1959. They theorized that pressure necrosis of the soft tissues surrounding the nail due to weight bearing is the primary cause of ingrowing toenails.Unlike other procedures, the nail is not touched. The overgrown toe skin is removed with a generous and adequate excision. When healed, the nail fold skin remains low and tight at the side of the nail.
