411.105 – Electronic ratio box. The VDO 411.105 is a 12 and 24 volt electronic ratio box that takes an input signal, and then multiples it by a ratio that can be greater than one or less than one. This device is very helpful for interfacing a gauge to a sensor when a customer modifies their vehicle. For example, if you fit larger tyres on your 4WD, your speedometer will no longer be accurate. You can use a VDO 411.105 to correct this error. The VDO 411.105 can also be used for converting cars between miles per hour and kilometres per hour. The ratio that is multiplied to the input signal is determined by changing the DIP switches. In this example, we are multiplying by 1.66, which would be useful for converting miles per hour to kilometers per hour. By changing the DIP switches we can change the multiplier to 0.62, which would convert from kilometres per hour to miles per hour. Here you can see the input signal and output signal on the oscilloscope as we change the DIP switches. Here it is 1:1… now it is 2x. Now it is 0.5 x.
