In 2019, VertiMax hosted the second ever VertiMax Summit in Tampa, FL and it was a huge success. Not only did we have the opportunity to connect with our community on a whole other level but they had a chance to connect with one another. The VertiMax Summit is a full day of education, hands on experiences and learning from the best in the Fitness and Sports Performance space. The day consists of Seminar Sessions backed with a workout supporting the solution driven content. This year we have three phenomenal keynote speakers, Dana Santas, Steve Leo, and Dan McDonogh, read on to learn more about each of them. Dana Santas: Train Your Breathing. Change Your Game. Want to move better? Breathe better. Breathing is a hot topic these days, but not everyone understands how to unlock and harness its game-changing power to impact movement. In the first half of this session, you’ll learn the basics of breathing biomechanics and why most of us don’t breathe optimally. You’ll also discover how breathing impacts posture, mobility, stability, and strength. During the second half, Dana will take you through two simple breathing-based exercises that will demonstrate marked improvements in shoulder internal and external rotation as well as hip internal rotation. You’ll have the opportunity to see and feel the difference better breathing makes in your own posture and movement! Steve Leo: Organizing Chaos. The drill is not the skill. Learn how to look at movement first, not the drill. In this presentation, you’ll learn how to select and optimize the best speed drills for your athlete’s goals by gaining a better understanding of how to organize linear speed progressions for youth athletes. We’ll also help you identify the best “internal,” and “external,” coaching cues for speed drills to enable your athletes for optimal performance. The faster an athlete can generate force, the more explosive they are going to be. As an athlete's explosive power increases, so will their ability to accelerate and jump. However, it is very important to note that the strength an athlete develops in the weight room will not effectively translate to explosive power in competition unless low velocity power lifting is combined with light-load high speed explosive training. Being strong doesn't guarantee you'll be explosive. The stronger you are the more explosive potential you have. However, an athlete's explosive potential can only be realized if their strength can be optimized for maximum rate of force production or power output. That is accomplished by combining traditional weight training protocols with EFFECTIVE high speed light load training. I emphasized effective because many of the elastic training devices and techniques which this video points out do not effectively load the initial phase of explosive movement.
