Every Friday and Sunday, a group of Vatsim Australia (VATPAC) members gather to fly a VFR flight. Usually engaging in a touch and go at various airports, the event moves from region to region in Australia and it's near Neighbours (such as Papua New Guinea, New Zealand, and other Pacific Islands on occason) from week to week. On the 24th of April 2016, The event flew from Bathurst to Canberra, to co-incide with the Vatpac/VATNZ "ANZAC" event which saw jet traffic flying from Wellington to Canberra. http://forums.vatpac.org/index.php?topic=17187.0 Instead of flying the Jet route, I joined the VFR guys from Bathurst. http://events.vatpac.org/en/daily-focus/friday-sunday-vfr-ops/ybth-yscb For this Vatsim flight, I flew the Air2Air (A2A) Piper Cherokee P28A. In this case I used the livery of Richmond Flying Club's Piper Archer VH-HTM, repainted by Arjun, Tyler and Myself. http://library.avsim.net/search.php?SearchTerm=HTM+trent&CatID=root&Go=Search In this case, I used a modified gauges_lm.bmp to provide an ASI in Knots and an Artificial Horizon with a black lower part. Those textures originate from https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5m7v-cVuRvNcTFZWlBGdjdvVzA/view Additionally, the GTN650 from Flight1 has been installed via the A2A Configurator. The Flight1 GTN650 is a separate payware product which can be purchased from http://www.flight1.com/products.asp?product=f1gtn Note that the GTN650 and GTN750 are separate products both from the same product page. Ensure you select the one you really want to purchase (or get both :P) The GTN750 is just a GTN650 with a much larger screen (and the ability to display charts as an overlay on the map screen, and a full touchscreen keypad instead of the 'row' keypad as shown here on the 650) Every air traffic controller and aircraft you hear in this video is a real person using VATSIM. For more information about vatsim, visit http://www.vatsim.net/ and http://www.vatsim.net/pilots/quickstart/ During the flight, charts and checklists were prepared on a second monitor and dragged into shot. This recording was made with OBS Studio 0.13.2(64bit) No post-flight editing was done AT ALL! Facecam is a Microsoft Lifecam HD-3000. My Computer specs are: Processor: i5 3750 3.5GHZ Graphics: GTX670 1GB Ram: 8GB 1600 DDR HDDs: ST1000DM003 & ST500DM002 Flight controls are: Saitek Throttle Quadrant https://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=959&products_id=6117&gclid=CjwKEAiA_NmkBRCe3ubC1aWAtEcSJACxkkbq1XVUGOsRu1xB5tufvTYnyHX0u4ohl3NHl1vPd5Co-RoCylnw_wcB CH Flight Sim Yoke which was given to me by one of my fans (Ies Apac https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC0GZVlZemR7tLZWJMPnozQQ). http://www.chproducts.com/Flight-Sim-Yoke-v13-d-705.html CH Pro Rudder Pedals also gifted to me by Ies Apac http://www.chproducts.com/Pro-Pedals-v13-d-716.html I also own a Saitek Cyborg EVO ambidexterous joystick configured for the left hand use, which was not used for this GA flight as the Rudder Pedals were used for steering when on the ground. http://www.amazon.com/Saitek-102989-Cyborg-Evo-Joystick/dp/B0000AW9P1 I use FSinn to connect to Vatsim due to some features (Voice CTAF) that it offers. You can learn how to install FSinn at https://forums.vatsim.net/viewtopic.php?f=43&t=63718 Australia uses CTAF (Common Traffic Advisory Frequency) for radio comms at uncontrolled airfields. VATSIM pilots connecting to the network using FSCOPILOT/FSINN can install an additional file that provides the ability to tune the CTAF frequency and make voice announcements to other pilots on frequency. These files can be obtained from https://drive.google.com/file/d/0ByF5FS8LEYNDNTdISS1KQWxQUXM/view FSinn is only available for FS9, FSX and FSX-se. Not P3D. P3D users need to use vPilot which does not have a Voice CTAF capability. If you are more of an audiovisual learner, then this video may help https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ihdEMuED_AU Addons used in this flight include: FTX Australia https://fullterrain.com/product/australia Orbx Bathurst airport https://www.fullterrain.com/product/ybth Orbx Canberra Airport https://www.fullterrain.com/product/yscb FTX Cityscape Canberra https://www.fullterrain.com/product/canberracityscape ActiveSky Next was used for all weather, this program injects Real time real weather including clouds, precipitation, temperatures, winds, turbulence etc into the simulator. http://www.hifisimtech.com/#pricingtable This flight was captured on Vataware, and can be seen at http://vataware.com/flight/571c95125352330a3000000f The Real world Piper Archer VH-HTM operates out of YSRI Richmond Flying Club. You can see several videos of myself flying VH-HTM with Arjun at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6hzEGEBUF30
