Victor is one more school dropout courtesy of jiggers.
The people who had never gotten real help finally got it through RUS. We have managed to bring down jigger infestation percentages in the western belt of Kenya as seen in schools right now compared to 2012. Generally, society attitude towards jigger victims has changed because we're out educating people in radios, churches and government meetings. Now it is rare to find someone with jiggers treated like a leper as the case was five years ago. A lot of the pupils with jiggers dropped out of school. This explains why many boda boda riders who are former jigger victims dropped out of school. One rider who took me to Bumula for jigger digging told me he had jiggers and they contributed to him leaving school at standard five. He wished we were there then; he wouldn't have dropped out of school. Such stories are many among adults. And we're filled with joy in knowing we're rescuing many potential drop outs. Victor is one of them. We find him almost unable to walk, and he's not at school because of jiggers. With the help we're giving him, he will be back to Nasimbo Primary School, a thing that could probably not happen had we not come for his rescue.
