Vintage Tyzack Tenon Saw Restoration

In this video I will be restoring a vintage Tyzack Tennon Saw. I found this saw at a local boot sale last summer for only £2. Seeing that it was brass backed I couldn’t refuse. I began my restoration by taking the saw apart and giving the blade a good scrub before soaking it in Evapo Rust overnight. The next day I removed the saw and began to sanding. I started sanding the blade with 60 grit and made my way all the way to 400 I order to give it as smooth a surface as possible. I then clamped the saw in a vice and filed all the teeth. After a lot of filing I then began to sand the brass. Since there were many letters I decided to use a scotch brite pad on the bench grinder to clean and sand around all the letters. Finally I buffed the whole saw to give it a nice shine. The next major part to restore was the handle. Although it looked rather terrible it was in pretty good condition. I began by scraping the old varnish with a sharp chosen. Then I sanded the whole handle with 60 grit the I cleaned it with white spirit before sanding with 80 grit. I then applied a coat of boiled linseed oil followed by 2 coats of varnish. The last stage was to restore the bolts. I simply clamped then in the pillar drill and sanded with 240 and 400 grit followed by a buffing. I hope you enjoy this video and subscribe for more restorations. Thanks for watching.
