The show is all about the latest gadgets and hi-tech gizmos - so these old-style music players are a surprising hit in Las Vegas. STORYLINE: Vinyl is back and black in Las Vegas. Some of major names in electronics are going back to the future and introducing new record players. It's one of the trends at this year's Consumer Electronic Show (CES). Panasonic has re-launched its Technics brand of audio equipment and the record player is at the heart of this revival. Panasonic had discontinued the Technics brand after it had fallen out of favour with the digital music generation. But that's all changed. Matt Frazer of Panasonic says the impetus to bring the brand back came from consumers, after vinyl started to become fashionable again. "This is 100 per cent customer driven. Consumers have been asking for the SL1200 to come back, people have wanted Panasonic to come back with the Technics brand – People want the SL1200 specifically to be the product that came back. They're the ones who brought it back. This is not something we decided to bring to market," says Frazer. He adds: "There is a tonality to vinyl, a warmness to it that people are clamouring to have back in their lives, some people feel that digital audio can at times feel somewhat cold or uninviting." One of the biggest hits of Sony's new line up is also a record player. ==== Clients are reminded: You can license this story through AP Archive: http://www.aparchive.com/metadata/youtube/1a2efab25c7252866fd9976d1e49436e Find out more about AP Archive: http://www.aparchive.com/HowWeWork
