This work was completed in 1950. The outer fast movements are lively expressions of the American spirit. However, it is the slow second movement that seems to be most memorable with its odd but attractive harmonic layout. It's almost hard to believe this is Virgil Thomson. Performed by Yehuda Hanani (Cello) and the RTE National Symphony Orchestra Conducted by William Eddins Included with this recording is music for cello and orchestra by William Perry and William Schuman.
