Vivaldi Bassoon Concerto in F RV488

Some introductory remarks: "In a bit of accidental pride I realized long ago that this is Vivaldi's only bassoon concerto to exhibit real French influence. It opens with a well-metered dance. The second movement is a well-ornamented sarabande featuring lots of dotted values, and the finale, another French dance, features a secondary theme based on Rameau. Vivaldi is known to have had several strong connections with French music. One is with Cardinal Ottoboni, who represented French interests at the papal court, and who introduced him to his other connection, the French ambassador to Venice, and Vivaldi wrote compositions for both of them. This concerto is a product of a time Vivaldi is known to have given several works to Cardinal Ottoboni, during his Roman operatic sojourn of 1723, making this the first concerto Vivaldi ever wrote for solo bassoon."
