Chennai (Tamil Nadu), Dec 21 (ANI): The by-elections for the RK Nagar Assembly seat ended on Thursday with turnout of 59% till 3 pm. 256 polling booths were set up with 3310 VVPAT machines to ensure fair polling. The seat was left vacant after the demise of former chief minister of Tamil Nadu J Jayalalithaa on Dec 5, 2016. AIADMK’s E. Madhusudhanan, independent candidate TTV Dinakaran and DMK’s N. Marudhu Ganesh are among the top contenders for the seat. The by-elections were earlier scheduled to be held in April; however, the polling was rescheduled after allegation of distribution of money in the constituency to lure voters. The counting of votes is scheduled to be done on Dec 24.
