WATCH: Purpura says Trump’s legal team ‘strongly opposes’ amendment over witnesses

During the impeachment trial of President Donald Trump on Jan. 21, deputy White House counsel Michael Purpura said Trump’s legal team “strongly opposed” an amendment that would entitle the Senate to debate whether or not to call witnesses, and ensure that the witnesses would testify in person. Trump was impeached by the House of Representatives in December on two articles — abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. The Senate will now decide whether to convict Trump of those charges and remove him from office, or acquit him.
