More than 30 trucks were damaged in a violent protest on the N3 highway near the Mooi River toll plaza in KwaZulu-Natal on Sunday evening. According to KZN police, a group of people began throwing objects and set vehicles alight at roughly 19:30, damaging a total of 35 trucks. The violence was apparently in response to the employment of foreign nationals as truck drivers. Fifty-four people have been arrested in connection with the protest. The suspects are expected to appear in the Mooi River Magistrate's Court on Monday, according to KZN police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbhele. The N3 Toll Concession on Twitter urged motorists to drive safely and traffic on the N3 has been diverted to the R103.
