The Wedge Tailed Eagle (Aquila audax) is Australia's largest Raptor. They are widespread across the continent and thrive in a range of habitats. However, it is in the open spaces of the outback where these majestic birds are most easily observed. Kangaroo's, Wallaby's , rodents, birds and lizards feature in their varied diet. However, they have also adapted to feed on carrion often including roadkill's. The Female is larger than the Male with a wingspan reaching 8 feet. Older birds are generally darker in plumage. Their display flights are spectacular particularly during the breeding season. They can be observed parachuting down with wings folded before 'braking' with outstretched wings. Wedge tailed Eagles are also impressive on the ground with their feathered 'trousers' down to their powerful talons. Their eyesight is also incredible being able to spot prey at great distance. I filmed these birds in Western Queensland. This bird Video is part of my channel started in 2015. My ambition is to showcase 500 Australian bird species. I am passionate about Bird Video as it Potentially shows bird behaviour, breeding and often bird song. I began birdwatching when I was 12 and progressed to bird photography and then to bird Video for the past 15 years. Originally from the UK, I find birding in Australia exciting and engaging. I have now travelled around Australia twice but mainly film birds in Queensland. Many of the bird clips are taken from hides or blinds that I construct from bush materials, saving the need to carry a hide to a location. Knowing bird calls and song is a big part of finding each species and naturally, knowing the habitat requirements helps also. Enjoy.
