The Gangnam Style video has produced many parodies and versions around the world. But Chinese contemporary artist and dissident Ai Weiwei has criticised the Chinese government for removing his take on Korean pop sensation Psy's Gangnam Style video from Chinese websites. Ai and his colleagues uploaded the video to Chinese sites like 'Tudou', an equivalent of the blocked site Youtube, but found that hours later it had been removed. Ai said that Psy's Gangnam Style dance and the international meme phenomenon it started was a 'grass-roots' expression of individualism that should be allowed in China. Fifty-five-year-old Ai, an internationally renowned artist and China's most high-profile dissident, has regularly clashed with the country's communist authorities.
