Please activate the HD function(1080p/720p) before watching the video or watch it with a larger type player (in 480p This video features the famed violinist Helmut Zacharias (1920-2002) and one of his early recordings : his rendition of "Wen ich liebe" (Who I love) which was a popular Zarah Leander song in the early 1940s. Zacharias studied with Gustav Havemann and first performed on the radio at age 11. He started touring at the age of 14. His style was heavily influenced by Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli. In 1941 he landed a recording contract with the Lindström company and made his first record ("Schönes Wetter"). After the War he became one of the most popular musicians in Europe and performed throughout Europe as well as the USA where he landed a massive hit with his rendition of "Wenn der weisse Flieder wieder blüht" (Wenn the white lilacs bloom again). He often appeared on tv shows and was featured in some films as well (he performed with Marika Rökk in "Die Nacht vor der Premiere"). At the end of the 1950s he moved to Switzerland. He died from the consequences of Alzheimer's disease. This record was recorded with an Nagaoka MP10 cartridge with 3,5mm 78rpm stylus as well as 78rpm phono preamp. The restoration was done as truthfully as possible.
