The thing is the big guys can change the price of any stock easily, because of the huge and buying power and capital they possess. If a mutual funds begin to buy a given stock, it must go up regardless of the company if it is doing well or bad. That is why most of the investors go wrong in their decisions. They think that only good stocks will be better in few years. Well this is not true always. Even if the company has strong fundamentals can see its stock go down for years. This is because mutual funds who are the big buyers in the market dont choose this company and they choose others companies. The manipulation is shown also in the industry rotation where mutual funds buy some stock in some industries and sell other companies in other industries. Ahat will happen is that some good companies you see them going down without any reason. Others go up. But in general analysts just try to explain and give reasons but they are clueless to see good companies dont do well in the stock market and others even without good earnings do well in terms of price growth. Hedge funds also manipulate things since they can short any stock good or bad. The company will lose a lot of its stock, because of this action. But understand that selling short is something that exist only in stock market. In other businesses, you can never sell a property of another person without his consent.
