But in the past few years they have all but disappeared almost without comment - but where and why? "I have to be sincere - when LASTMA and all these people came out - when your Molue breeaks down, you have to pay up to 100,000 Naira!" says Mr Lekan, a Lagos bus driver and Molue owner. "So some people have sold their Molues - they can't afford it." (Lagos Transport) Where have all the big, yellow Molue Lagos Bus gone? Mr Lekan was once told by LASTMA (the Lagos traffic police - to pay 25,000 Naira ($160) but by the end of the day, he says he was forced to spend over 50,000 Naira ($320) to release his Molue and livelihood. Mr Ibrahim has been driving a Molue for 8 years and many of his colleagues once owned seven or eight Molues, but in the last few years they have all been steadily disappearing - he blames the introduction of the new BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) buses by the Lagos state government. "During the Fashola regime now, they have sent the Molue to the tipper," says Mr Ibrahim. Lagos State is concerned, not just about the look of Lagos transport system, but safety. Many Molues are very old and a danger to their passengers and other traffic on the road. The problem, say many Lagos bus drivers, is that the Molues are still essential for the LAgos transport system: "People like Molue - we help the poor masses!" says Mr Lakan. "We carry up to 35 passengers... we tell them not to stand but we cannot force them - they don't have the money to sit!" Prices vary depending on the route but BRT can be as expensive as 200 Naira. Mr Lekan charges 50 Naira to sit, 30 Naira to stand. "People like Molue!" says Mr Lekan. The problem is there are not many left. **** CLICK HERE TO SUBSCRIBE FOR NEW BATTABOX VIDEOS EVERYDAY: http://goo.gl/vJfFY ... YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/user/BattaBox ...
