The NBA playoffs are coming up and Ben Simmons has continued to impress me so let me know if you think Ben Simmons is the rookie of the year and also how far can the 76ers go in the playoffs. Alright, let’s get into it. Ben Simmons is a genetic monster and a gifted athlete. At 6’ 10”, Simmons has the passing ability of a point guard, the quickness of a combo guard, the dribbling ability of a point forward, the size of a center, and the strength of a LeBron. And if that’s not enough, he also straight up ending people’s careers. But he’s doing all this without shooting midrange or 3 point jumpshots. My man be shooting 15% on jumpshots. That doesn’t even matter, but Ben Simmons is working on a jumpshot. He’s somewhere between a horrible shooter and a streaky midrange shooter. Simmons has an awkward form while shooting with his left hand. He holds his shot for too long at the top of his release, he’s stiff, and his elbows pop out. The weird thing is that Simmons shoots better with his right. It’s a more fluent motion. In fact, Simmons shoots and dunks more with his right hand and has a higher field goal percentage with his right. When asked about this, Ben Simmons just says he thought he was supposed to be a righty, but his dad made him dribble and shoot with his left. So the fix to his jumpshot could be switching hands. He can’t even make free throws at a consistent rate and maybe, just maybe, he’ll have a better feel with his right hand, but these cases got a great feel in either hand with dope designs to check out athletic cases in the description. When they make a Ben Simmons case, who knows what hand he will be shooting with. NBA defenses know that Ben Simmons can’t shoot and drop down, giving Simmons space. Now typically, that is what you should do on bad shooters. Players are supposed to force them to drive to the paint and then cut them off or lead them into the defense. But this doesn’t word on Ben Simmons. He has the LeBron James impact. If you give Simmons a chance to go downhill, there’s no stopping him with just a guard. And thus he gets a head of steam and forces a defender to help. Once that happens, he can easily pass to the open man. If a defender doesn’t rotate, then it’s an easy finish. Same with the pick and roll. Defender go under the pick which gives Simmons enough time to gain speed and charge in the paint. Simmons cannot shoot any jumpers and defenses know that. But by giving him so much space to dribble, they are playing right into his hands. So in short, Ben Simmons not being able to shoot actually helps him out and plays to his strength. Defenses need to play Simmons the same way they play LeBron, an arm length away. Still, I’m sure Ben Simmons would figure something about because he’s a genius.
