Why has Greenland caught Donald Trump's eye? | ITV News

In 2019, Donald Trump took the world by surprise when he suggested that America might want to buy Greenland from Denmark. Both Greenland and Denmark responded with incredulity saying the country ‘is not for sale’. Over recent years, the world’s largest island has had increasing foreign interest. As well as the country’s geopolitical significance, located between North America and Europe, it’s home to significant natural resources – including rare earth metals, oil and gas - all becoming easier to access as climate change melts its ice sheets.
