1991 or 1992 footage of the Wollongong Lighthouse Karting Grand Prix in NSW Australia. Karts reached 130km/h around the closed street circuit for years until the event ended in the early 2000's in part due to safety concerns after the death of Nicole Franks in February 2002. In the footage there are examples of Super Karts doing demonstration runs. There were some amazing accidents there, including one that proceeded the start of this video where a large chunk of the field came together and crashed into the pit lane exit hay bales necessitating a restart. The whole event was a little crazy, like driving at Monaco with no seat belt was how I always thought of it, and there was the possibility of ending up in the harbour from a great height too. Good times.
