Devotees celebrate this festival with immense fervor and devotion Women worshiped Goddess Shitala Mata on the occasion of Shitala Astami and offered bhog to the deity at temples here on Frirday. Women cooked delicious food items on Friday and offered it as bhog to Shitala Mata on Saturday 9 march. Women thronged Shitala Mata temples on Astami. Sheetala Mata is known to be an important Goddess in Hindu mythology. The Goddess is seated on a donkey and has been portrayed holding neem leaves, broom, soup and a pot. As per Basoda rituals, worshipers do not light the fire for cooking. So generally people prepare food a day earlier and consume the stale food the next day. On this pious day, people take bath before sunrise in lake or river and install idol or picture of Goddess Shitala . Devotees decorate the same with sandalwood paste, turmeric, vermillion, offer fruits and other sixteen types of offerings. At the end of the puja, rice mixed with ghee is offered as Prasad (which is cooked a day before). Devotees also visit Shitala Devi temple and worship the Goddess This day is dedicated to worshipping Goddess Sheetala., it is believed that Goddess Sheetala controls chickenpox, measles, small pox and other similar diseases. By worshiping the Goddess on this auspicious day people can prevent the outbreak of epidemic diseases in their family, especially among children.
