REVIEW:
You are in the hunt for the Yeti, and the Yeti lives high up in the snowy mountains, where buddha statues, monks, traps, flying robots and mystic creatures is making you having a hard time in fulfilling your quest.
You have to watch out for your body temperature, if this drops to zero you will die, but bottles that will restore the temperature can be picked up. You can also pick up shields that will protect you from everything except craggy spikes and lightning bolts – as long as the shield last you will be flashing. Your ammunition and bombs is not unlimited but you can pick up new supplies as you come along.
You will need the bombs to remove the Buddha statues and other big obstacles, while your gunfire can take care of the small enemies. Your gunfire can also block / neutralize gunfire from enemies.
Certain places you can also find a ski-bike which will make the progress faster but you can only fire from one position while you normally can fire standing, sitting and jumping. A nice touch is that you see the Yeti some places, but he does off course always get away until you get to him on the final screen.
Despite the strange scenario with fighting buddha statues etc. the storyline actually works well in this game. It controls well and all the extra stuff you can collect makes the game interesting to play. It also has tactical elements because of the limited supply you have of ammo and bombs. You will also come to a place where you will have to shoot monks endlessly until you figure out the only way to stop them is to bomb and destroy their temple. Graphically it is very nice with great use of color and no color clash. This version has got in game AY music added by Gladiators Group.
The rating of this game could have been very high, but the difficulty is pulling it down. It is very tough and sometimes you can die because an enemy enters the screen at the right side, just as you are on your way out. This game is obviously inspired by Exolon but the gameplay in Exolon is much better.
The game was published by Destiny Software in 1988.
