Yokohama Blue Line 横浜 ブルーライン 「HD 2013」

The Blue Line is a part of the Yokohama Municipal Subway network. Yokohama is the second largest city in Japan and with a total length of 40.4 km the Blue Line is also the second-longest subway line in Japan (right after the 40.7 km long Toei Oedo Line in Tokyo). It extends from Azamino in Aoba to Shōnandai in Fujisawa. As the route connects many major railway lines (mainly the Shinkansen and busy commuter lines), business districts and residential areas, the Blue Line is one of the most important and frequented Rapid Transit lines in the Kanagawa prefecture. Even tourists can take advantage of this subway as it also serves the new urban center Minatomirai 21 (→ Sakuragichō station). Actually the line consists of two routes - Line 1 between Shōnandai and Kannai, Line 2 between Kannai and Azamino - between however all services join both lines. Since 2007 platform screen doors have been installed at all stations, enabling ATO and one-man-operation. All trains are 6-car formations of the 3000 series which were built since 1992. Riding the entire Blue Line takes about 67 minutes. In the future the line is supposed to be extended in the north to Shin-Yurigaoka (possible interchange Odakyu Lines and the also planned Kawasaki subway). Limited-stop Rapid services are scheduled to be introduced in 2014 which will reduce the journey times for longer rides.
