At least four civilians were killed and eleven reportedly injured after an explosion on Maiwand Road in Kabul on Tuesday.

The blast occurred in a heavily crowded area. No individual or group has claimed responsibility for the explosion and an investigation is ongoing.

“I was sitting here, then suddenly a blast took place, I turned my face towards the scene, I saw dust rising and I ran to help people. I saw my friend there, he lost his legs. There was a woman, children, a shopkeeper,” Sherzai, a resident and eyewitness said.

“I am a vendor selling cosmetics, I was setting up there and it was around 01:30 pm (09:00 GMT). Then suddenly a blast occurred and I fell down and I don’t remember anything,” another local said.

Afghanistan is seeing a surge in violence as US troops leave the country and Taliban forces rapidly retake territory.
