Kabul markets were busy on Monday as many struggled to receive their salaries or touch their savings.

The country is facing much uncertainty amid a Taliban takeover which has forced many to flee the hardship.

SOT, Afghan man (Pashto): “The things which were bought on 500 Aghani now its rates are 700 Afghani. All banks and big markets are closed and government employees are not there (at the banks) we cannot take our salaries. We are demanding from the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan to open the banks as soon as possible to solve the problem.”

SOT, Local (Pashto): “People are in a very bad situation and people are demanding money but no one has the money in their pockets but it’s in banks or with private holder. When banks and other money-providing sources become open the people’s problems would be solved. Everyone has stories about their money in banks or with the private holder. People are facing serious problems and Islamic Emirate should open the banks as soon as possible.”

SOT, Omar, Shopkeeper (Dari): “Prices of main goods have been recently increased compared to before the time Taliban overtook the country. Due to the lack of money and closure of banks and people are also escaping and leaving the country as we see.”
