The relatives of people killed in a Kabul drone strike conducted by US forces in August have condemned the military operation whilst speaking from the scene of the attack on Sunday.
The strike was initially presented as a preventative take-out of a vehicle loaded with explosives set for Kabul’s airport.

Seven children and three adults were killed in an attack on August 29, in a military operation which the Pentagon has referred to as a “tragic mistake” during a press conference held on Friday. Relatives of the victims of the attack are demanding compensation from the US government for the damage caused, with one also requesting justice for those responsible for authorising the operation in a US court of law.

Following the Taliban takeover of Kabul, thousands fled to the airport in an attempt to evacuate from the country, with many attempting to board departing flights.
During the evacuation, a bomb attack was conducted on civilians congregating around the airport, wounding over 150 people and killing at least 95 on August 26.

According to US intelligence, the attack had been conducted by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant – Khorasan Province (ISIS-K), a self-proclaimed offshoot of the so-called Islamic State (IS; formerly ISIS/ISIL).

Following the deadly bombing, US President Joe Biden promised that US forces would “hunt down” and make “pay” those responsible for the attacks, leading to subsequent action, including the deadly drone strike on August 29.

Despite the deaths that took place early on in the evacuation of US and coalition forces from Afghanistan, Biden has defended the steps taken during the evacuation process, which formally ended by the August 31 deadline.
