Jalalabad residents may be seen celebrating Afghanistan’s Independence Day on the streets on the eve of the holiday on Wednesday.

Taliban militants killed and injured several protesters earlier in the day following a disagreement on the removal of an Afghan national flag in the city.

The celebrations come at a time of power consolidation by the Taliban across Afghanistan following the collapse of the Afghan government and the decision to withdraw from the country by US and NATO forces.
